Arca Continental S.A.B. de C.V. issued the following announcement on Aug. 28.
The Ministries of the Environment and Production of Peru granted the seal of recognition for the fulfillment of 100% of the goals established in the Clean Production Agreement to Arca Continental Lindley and Coca-Cola Peru.
With the delivery of the seal, the ministries recognize the satisfactory fulfillment of the agreement that both companies signed in 2018, exceeding some of the stipulated goals, such as:
- The maintenance of 25% of recycled PET in the bottles. In addition to the general fulfillment of the goal, they managed to produce the first 100% recycled plastic container in Peru for the entire San Luis water line.
- Have 20% of the production in returnable glass containers , reaching more than 30% of the total volume of production nationwide, achieving monthly records of 35% of returnable containers.
- And the generation of at least five alliances with local governments to strengthen the recycling value chain, specifying six at the national level to promote segregation programs at the source with an emphasis on the recycling of bottles.
“We will continue promoting the sustainable management of our packaging and promoting a circular economy, both through the use of returnable glass and plastic containers, as well as 100% recycled and recyclable bottles, as we did last year when producing and distributing the first bottles. 100% made from other bottles ”, mentioned Juan Félix Alba, general manager of the Arca Continental Lindley bottling company.
These actions reinforce Arca Continental's leadership in sustainability, adding to initiatives such as those of PetStar, the world's largest food grade PET recycling company, in Mexico; the inclusive recycling program DAR, in Ecuador; the promotion of returnability with the universal bottle in Mexico, Argentina, Ecuador and Peru, and the promotion of community recycling through various actions in the United States.
It should be noted that Arca Continental signed the Agreement for the New Plastic Economy in Mexico, together with the Senate of the Republic, and the Global Agreement for the New Plastic Economy, led by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and the UN, which seeks to eradicate waste and plastic pollution from its roots, through a new regulation for plastic packaging.
With actions such as those that made it possible to obtain this recognition, Arca Continental reaffirms its commitment to continue incorporating technologies to increase the use of recycled material and promote returnability, promoting circular economy models in all the territories where it operates, trying to work in an articulated manner with different key actors for the care of the environment and the benefit of the communities.
