National Chamber of Commerce of Mexico City issued the following announcement on Dec. 18.

Given the announcement made today by the authorities of the Ministry of Health and the Government of Mexico City, about the entry into force of the Red Traffic Light and the commercial restrictions that said instruction implies, Nathan Poplawsky, president of the Canaco CDMX, said that businessmen in commerce, services and tourism, “we are convinced that the priority is to save lives and take care of the health of all Mexicans and that is why we have always accompanied the decisions of the federal and local governments in the matter and we will continue to do so ”.

However, he added, unfortunately and as a consequence of this pandemic a difficult economic crisis has been generated whose main effect - which has hurt us deeply - is the loss of a significant number of jobs and the significant reduction in people's purchasing power. usually.

The business leader stressed that in the face of this indisputable reality, we have before us the enormous task of building, among all of us, a new normal in which health care coexists on the one hand and, on the other, the economic well-being of the population usually.

He stressed that the measures announced today will have a devastating effect on employment because, according to the estimate of Canaco CDMX, between December 19, 2020 and January 10, 2021 there will be a loss in sales of 48 thousand 554 million pesos in Mexico City.

Finally, Nathan Poplawsky stressed that businessmen in commerce, services and tourism reiterate their solidarity and commitment to the measures announced by the CDMX Government, because the first thing is the health and life of Mexicans and recalled that we are at the waiting for the indispensable reciprocity on the part of the authorities in financial matters, tax exemptions and support for the payment of salaries, since only in this way will it be possible to guarantee the permanence of the companies and the preservation of thousands of jobs.
