At Volaris Air,  a low-cost airline that serves Mexico, the United States and Central America, business is heading up.

"We are seeing a gradual recovery of demand that was accelerating towards the end of June and into July," President and CEO Enrique Beltranena said in a news release.

Volaris had 585,000 passengers in June, up 175% over May, the news release said. However, the June number was still only 31% of the June 2019 passenger volume.

In response to lower demand for air travel during the COVID-19 pandemic, Volaris "carefully managed its network" the airline said.

For June, Volaris operated at 40 percent capacity. In July, it plans to increase capacity to about 60 percent, "in response to a gradual recovery of the market," according to the news release.

"Volaris has been promoting safe- travel protocols to gain trust of the customers," the news release said.

In June, the airline announced five new domestic routes from Mexico City.
