Pemex issued the following announcement on June 7.
As today marks the 82nd anniversary of its creation as a state-owned production company, Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) is today the largest oil company in our country, a national pride and one of the most important oil companies in the world. It was on June 7, 1938, by Decree promoted by the then President of Mexico, Lázaro Cárdenas del Río , when Pemex was created, a historic decision that has meant development and progress for the country.
Despite the fact that this 2020 has been a very difficult year due to the pandemic that has hit Mexico and the entire world , in addition to a historical drop in international oil prices, today Pemex has a solid administration and a new energy policy led by the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who has focused government efforts on rescuing the country's energy sector, after a long period of neoliberal governments characterized by corruption that practically sank and indebted the company.
The current administration of Pemex , together with the support of the oil workers, is carrying out a series of administrative and operational changes to take advantage of this crisis and emerge with a more efficient, more agile company, free of little transparent practices and corruption.
There is a clear course to clean up the company's finances, increase crude production, as well as to achieve energy sovereignty through the rehabilitation of the six refineries and the construction of a new one in Dos Bocas, Tabasco. Likewise, with the support of the armed forces, the fight against the theft of fuels continues, an illegal activity that has been reduced by more than 90 percent, from 56,000 barrels per day to 3,000 in recent months.
Pemex recognizes the entire oil community, who with their discipline and talent contribute their knowledge and experience to rescue the oil company from all Mexicans.
