PEMEX: Pemex continues to apply strict health protocols on marine platforms for the detection and control of COVID-19 cases

Pemex issued the following announcement on April 13.

The director of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), Octavio Romero Oropeza confirmed his determination to work in coordination with Governor Carlos Miguel Aysa González, to maximize the application of prevention protocols and epidemiological care on marine platforms and reduce the risks of infection by COVID- 19.

The federal official guaranteed that the Mexican company will work closely with the president and will support the measures that it has implemented throughout the country, in order to protect the health of the people of Campeche.

He stressed that the productive dynamics that occur on platforms has led to maintaining strict control and monitoring inside and outside them, because the priority is to prevent the virus from spreading indiscriminately.

Aysa González, for her part, recognized the commitment of the Pemex director to strengthen the work coordinated to apply preventive measures and keep conditions under permanent surveillance of health of its personnel and of the companies that work with the Mexican oil company.

"We will continue working hand in hand because it is the most effective way we have to stop the contagion, ”said the head of the state executive.

In the face of the worldwide health emergency caused by COVID-19, Petróleos Mexicanos has implemented strict health and safety protocols, as well as random sampling of a representative proportion of workers on marine platforms to detect suspected cases of COVID-19 and protect the staff health.

The evaluation of cases, review of health protocols is being carried out and in the offshore oil facilities of the Gulf of Mexico, Pemex has applied the

COVID 19 Emergency Response Plan (PRE-C), as well as 11 prevention and control protocols in Pemex Exploration and Production, for the attention and transport of personnel with suspected contagion in each of the platforms and process centers; as well as 2 communication protocols with the Corporate Administration and Services Department.

It should be noted that since March 9, sanitary filters were installed in the accesses to the work centers to detect suspicious cases and reduce contagions among workers, prioritizing those corresponding to arrival routes and boarding the offshore facilities both by sea as well as by air placing thermographic cameras and sanitation tunnels at these points.

The sanitation and cleaning of facilities was also implemented and the measures of the national “Susana Distancia” campaign have been applied, and the protocol of identifying workers who have traveled abroad or who present symptoms of respiratory diseases has been maintained.

As a result of the application of preventive protocols, on April 11, four workers with ordinary illnesses were identified in the Abkatun-A process center. In prevention, they were referred to the Medical Service for evaluation and monitoring of their health status. The following actions were carried out in said work center:

31 medical exams, of these, 13 workers were defined as suspicious cases and another 2 were referred to the General Hospital Cd del Carmen.

Two pharyngeal and nasopharyngeal exudates were taken for viral isolation of COVID-19 by means of the RT-PCR SARS-CoV-2 technique.

The sanitation measures applicable to the common areas and measures to maintain a healthy distance were reinforced with all the personnel on board.

Likewise, in the Pemex marine platforms, particularly in Zaap-C and MASE 801, health protocols and monitoring of suspected cases of COVID-19 are intensified.

Pemex confirms its commitment to the health of its workers, the main asset of the State's productive company.
