COMISION FEDERAL DE ELECTRICIDAD: We Will Not Let The CFE Die; We Are Going To Fulifill the Mandate of the President of the Republic: Manuel Bartlett

Comision Federal de Electricidad issued the following announcement on Oct. 10.

The General Director of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), Manuel Bartlett Díaz, appeared before the United Energy and Infrastructure Commissions of the Chamber of Deputies, on the occasion of the analysis of the First Government Report of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

"We will not let the CFE die; we will fulfill the mandate of the President," Bartlett Díaz said in the meeting with deputies. He stressed that the fall of the CFE would be a tragedy for Mexico and the Mexicans. "The CFE became an energy buying entity, instead of being a generating entity. The first approach made by the President is that we have to make the CFE generate energy."

During his appearance, Bartlett Díaz clarified that the CFE is in favor of clean energy and therefore drives hydroelectric generation, the cheapest. "Wind and solar energy are very cheap if they do not take into consideration that they must have a backup (provided by the CFE). The Electric System must maintain a balance."

The Director General of the CFE explained that electricity is essential in all aspects of daily life, development, commerce, health. He pointed out that the CFE will generate enough electricity to be able to compete in equality in the large consumer market.

Bartlett Díaz said that for the President of the Republic, access to the Internet is another of the great strategic issues in favor of the development of Mexico and, with the creation of 'CFE Telecommunications and Internet for All', the CFE advances in fulfilling the task.

With regard to the fees for energy transmission generated by private companies, Bartlett Díaz said they are very low and are established by the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE). "The rates barely cover the maintenance of the Transmission network. This becomes a subsidy for private investment. and creates a problem of instability of the network. It is very serious and puts the Electric System at risk."

During the appearance, deputies expressed their appreciation to Bartlett Díaz's work in favor of the Mexican energy sector and for the agreements reached with the gas transport companies (gas pipelines). Manuel Bartlett said it is a great distinction to be in an appearance in the Chamber of Deputies.

After receiving requests from deputies of all parliamentary factions represented in the room, the CFE General Director undertook to participate in working groups with the deputies, in different parts of the country, to discuss the issue of electricity rates and review alleged increases in electric power consumption receipts; and invited all legislators to join these work tables.

In the presidium they were; Manuel Rodríguez González, President of the Energy Commission; and Ricardo Francisco Exsome Zapata, President of the Infrastructure Commission; Enrique Ochoa Reza, Secretary of the Energy Commission; Gerardo Fernández Noroña, Secretary of the Energy Commission; Anilú Ingram Vallines, Secretary of the Infrastructure Commission; Hernán Salinas Wolberg, Secretary of the Energy Commission; Jacobo David Cheja Alfaro, Secretary of the Energy Commission; and Adriana Paulina Teissier Zavala, member of the Infrastructure Commission.
