Arca Continental, one of the largest Coca-Cola bottlers in the world, signed the Circular Economy Pact promoted by the National Government of Ecuador, under the National Agreement 2030
The pact raises nine thematic axes: waste utilization and industrialization, eco-design, linkage with the academy, clean production, sustainable and resilient infrastructure, education to promote responsible consumption patterns, sustainable businesses, progressive substitution of single-use plastics and The development of indicators.
The signing of the pact adds to the other efforts made by Arca Continental in all its territories under the Circular Economy model, as well as to the attachment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) throughout its business strategy.
Among other initiatives, the Development, Environment, Recycling (DAR) program stands out, which seeks to generate an inclusive recycling culture in Ecuador and enhance PET recovery through the generation of better economic, social and organizational conditions for recyclers.
In Mexico, the company leads PetStar - the largest food grade PET recycling plant in the world - where in 2018 alone more than 1,640 million PET bottles were recycled, equivalent to the collection of 70% of the containers that The company sells.
The company has also innovated with packaging made of 100% recycled content in Mexico, with the Ciel water bottle, and in Peru, with the San Luis water bottle, and has promoted, together with the Coca-Cola Company, returnability campaigns in Argentina.
Thanks to these and other initiatives, Arca Continental currently incorporates an average of 30% recycled content in its PET packaging globally.
These actions pay for the fulfillment of the goals set with the Coca-Cola Company in the strategy of Un Mundo Sin Residuos, seeking that by 2030 100% of the packages be recyclable, and contain at least 50% recycled material, as well as the promotion of the collection of 100% of the packages that are put on the market.
With these initiatives, Arca Continental ratifies its commitment to the planet through actions aimed at generating solutions, guaranteeing its effort to reach the optimal state of this new way of doing inclusive and environmentally friendly businesses, and consolidates itself as a benchmark in environmental proposals that promote inclusive recycling and reuse of packaging in all its territories.
