PEMEX: Pemex increases its projection of 3P reserves in the Ixachi field, in Veracruz, to more than 1,000 million barrels of oil equivalent

Pemex issued the following announcement on Nov. 27.

Petróleos Mexicanos reports that after having carried out all the necessary technical tests, it has been confirmed that the Ixachi field, located in the municipality of Tierra Blanca, 72 kilometers from the Port of Veracruz, has an extension greater than that reported when it was announced. discovery, in November of 2017, since its 3P reserves would reach more than 1 billion barrels of oil equivalent.

Preliminary estimates indicate that in the fullness of its production stage, calculated for the year 2022, the Ixachi field would contribute around 80 thousand barrels per day of condensate and more 700 million cubic feet per day of gas, which will help meet the demand of gas and liquid hydrocarbons that the country requires for its development in the short and medium term.

This was validated once the analysis of geological information and reservoir engineering provided by the Ixachi-1DEL and Ixachi-1001 wells was completed, in which it was confirmed that the Ixachi deposit is larger than what had been originally postulated , since its area is around 50 square kilometers and has a column of hydrocarbons exceeding one thousand meters.

This discovery is the most important in the land portion in the last 25 years in our country and the fourth largest in the world discovered during the last decade.

It is a deposit that has great economic value, since it is a land field that has the strategic advantage of being close to infrastructure in operation, both in wells and in the pipeline system, so it can enter production quickly.

In a press conference, the CEO of Petróleos Mexicanos, Carlos Treviño Medina explained that the objective of the exploratory campaign that was deployed in recent months in the region was to incorporate gas and condensate reserves at a stratigraphic level below the Ixachi deposit , in Cretaceous limestones located on the eastern edge of the Córdoba Platform.

The amount of gas and liquid hydrocarbons identified in this field will ensure the viability of supplying these products, in the short and medium term, to the petrochemical complexes in the southeast of the country.

In the event, the engineer José Antonio Escalera, Director of Exploration, made a historical recount of the different stages of exploration that have taken place in the Veracruz Basin and highlighted the work of many generations of geologists, geophysicists, petroleum engineers, specialists, researchers and workers of Pemex who contributed over the years to explore this asset.

The Veracruz Basin is located to the west of the Gulf of Mexico in an area of 39,000 square kilometers and has been for more than 60 years, a source of strategic resources of great value for the development of our country and for the advancement of the industry national oil company.

The discovery of the Ixachi site is the result of an effort that began in 1948 and that 70 years later throws a great discovery, which undoubtedly is the product of passion, talent, creativity and deep love for Mexico that oilmen have and that will give value to those present and the next generations.
