Arca Continental S.A.B. de C.V. issued the following announcement on Aug. 20.
Arca Continental, the second largest Coca-Cola bottler in Latin America, started the Development, Environment, Recycling (DAR) program in Ecuador with the aim of promoting an inclusive recycling culture and enhance the recovery of PET in the country.
The program, based on the sustainability objectives of Arca Continental and Coca-Cola to collect and recycle 100% of the primary packaging that is put on the market by 2030, seeks to generate better economic, social and organizational conditions for recyclers of base, through a sustainable strategy of shared value, providing a decent access to recyclable material and promoting this practice in Ecuadorian society.
"The DAR program strengthens the efforts we have been making in recent years in the countries where we have a presence in terms of PET recycling. Thanks to them, the bottles of our products in Ecuador contain 25% recycled resin, "said Guillermo Adam, Director of Arca Continental Ecuador.
"Today, thanks to the union of private enterprise, civil society and the public sector, we deliver to the waste pickers of the National Network of Recyclers of Ecuador (RENAREC) the initial quota of two trucks for the transport of recyclable solid waste from 2.8 tons, "he added.
The pilot of the program will be held in Quito and is planned to be extended throughout the country, benefiting more than 1,500 families of waste pickers and increasing the collection of recyclable materials with local partners from the public and private sectors.
The presentation of the DAR program was attended by the Mexican company PetStar, the largest food grade PET recycling plant in the world, which is led by Arca Continental, Coca-Cola de México and a group of bottling companies from the Mexican food industry. Coca Cola.
