Comision Federal de Electricidad issued the following announcement on July 18.
The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) received the Recognition of Environmental Excellence 2018 awarded by the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA). The distinction is given to those companies that demonstrate outstanding actions in the care of the environment.
The recognition of the successful implementation of environmental management systems was granted for the fourth consecutive year to the Tres Vírgenes Geothermal Field located in Baja California Sur and, for the first time, to the Mérida II Thermoelectric Power Plant. This is the result of the actions implemented by the CFE to guarantee compliance with environmental regulations.
The Recognition of Environmental Excellence 2018 seeks to recognize the high commitment to the preservation of the environment of certified facilities with the highest level of environmental performance (NDA2), promoting sustainable environmental and economic development of the nation's productive companies.
The award ceremony was held at the Mérida II Thermoelectric Power Plant, in the state of Yucatán. During the event were present Rolando Zapata Bello, Governor of Yucatan; Rafael Pacchiano Alamán, Secretary of the Environment and Natural Resources; Guillermo Haro Bélchez, Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection and Lizandro Lizama, Secretary of Labor of the Regional Coordination of the Single Union of Electrical Workers of the Mexican Republic on behalf of Víctor Fuentes del Villar, Secretary General of SUTERM.
During his participation, Jaime Hernández, General Director of the CFE, said that for the Federal Electricity Commission it is a pride that the effort made in this area is giving positive results and that it is recognized by PROFEPA.
He highlighted that 91 power plants of the CFE already have Clean Industry Certificates, issued by PROFEPA. And noted that the goal of the CFE is that, at the close of this Administration, 100% of the plants obtain this certification.
For his part, Attorney Guillermo Haro Bélchez, congratulated the CFE for complying with the agreement signed with the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection. In addition, he applauded that 81% of the total facilities of the CFE comply voluntarily with environmental legislation.
The CFE will strengthen its efforts in the area of environmental care and conservation so that each year more centers will be awarded this recognition. In addition, it will continue to implement actions that will allow it to satisfactorily comply with the current environmental regulations, and thus achieve electricity generation processes that are more friendly to the environment for the benefit of its customers.
