Cemex issued the following announcement on July 4.
CEMEX, S.A.B. de C.V. (“CEMEX”) (NYSE: CX) announced today its participation in the expansion and optimization of the ‘El Salitre’ Wastewater Treatment Plant, located on the outskirts of Bogotá, Colombia. CEMEX expects to supply over 290,000 cubic meters of concrete for this project, which will contribute to the decontamination of the Bogotá River, the main river in the Andean Colombian savannah.
Since October 2017, CEMEX has provided building materials for the construction of the plant’s piles, slabs, tank walls, and piled walls. Built with low and very low permeability concretes, the facility’s tanks have 40-centimeter-thick walls with a 7-centimeter coating that are designed to withstand the most aggressive environment.
“We are proud of our contribution to a project that will potentially benefit the whole country,” said Juan Carlos Muñoz, Vice President of Builders Solutions of CEMEX in Colombia. “Our customer service, experience, and high-quality materials are for the benefit of Colombia, enabling us to build a better future together.”
The expansion and optimization of the ‘El Salitre’ Plant is expected to facilitate the daily treatment of approximately 605 million liters of wastewater coming from north and central Bogota—the equivalent of approximately 242 Olympic-sized swimming pools per day. The project is expected to benefit over 2.7 million of people in Bogota by supplying purified water for agricultural and farming activities, while contributing to the decontamination of 80% of the Bogotá River, one of the main fluvial channels for the Bogotá Savannah.
