National Chamber of Commerce of Mexico City issued the following announcement on June 19.
The president of the Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism of Mexico City, Nathan Poplawsky Berry, expresses his deep concern about the increasing number of marches carried out by the members of the National Coordination of Education Workers (CNTE). On other occasions, the owner of the Canaco CDMX has stated that "we do not oppose the free expression of ideas, however, warns us that the exercise of this right will be detrimental to the freedom of transit and the exercise of free trade "
He pointed out that the inhabitants of Mexico City aspire to ensure that our capital does not lose viability through the direct action of marches and plantones professionals, because if the exercise of our rights is not balanced, social and political groups will appropriate the streets. of its furniture and will put at risk the safety of passers-by, monuments and establishments.
The business leader said that so far this year, only in the center of the Cuauhtémoc delegation have been carried out 13 marches organized by the CNTE , which has caused no sales for more than 1000 million pesos. This without counting the affectation in the area of the plantón.
In this regard, he explained that in the section of Morelos and Bucareli, in which the tents were installed, 50 commercial establishments of different lines are directly affected: bakeries, jewelries, locksmiths, stationers, pharmacies, restaurants and parking, as well as accommodation and recreation (hotels and cinemas) and an exhibition center, on whose sales depend approximately 285 families.
He indicated that, according to a survey conducted by the Canaco CDMX in the businesses located in the area of the plantón, sales have fallen by up to 100% , that is, they do not record sales throughout the day, since it is impossible to access the establishments for the obstruction of the tents on the sidewalks and streets.
On the other hand, the leader of the merchants, warned that the 600 establishments that are located on the periphery of the plant have been negatively impacted their daily income between 50 to 70%. So, for each day of plantón, these shops have stopped entering about 2 million 900 thousand pesos daily. To this day, it is estimated that the income not received amounts to 45 million 900 thousand pesos only in the area impacted by the plantón.
He noted that according to an investigation of the Canaco among the owners of commercial establishments that are in the area of the plantón, as well as in the periphery and surrounding streets, (City Hall, Morelos, Athens, Article 123 and General Prim), these They have expressed interest in another area of the city to move their business, because they fear that to continue these demonstrations, without brake by the authority, they will also have to lower their curtains, as they have done about 250 commercial stores, located mainly on Bucareli Avenue.
Therefore, Nathan Poplawsky strongly calls on the deputies of the Legislative Assembly of the Federal District to regulate marches and plantings in our city, in such a way that neither citizenship nor economic life is paralyzed by those who, abusing of a constitutional precept, violate the rights to free transit and exercise of the free enterprise of thousands of Mexicans.
