Orbia Advance Corporation's Fluor & Energy Materials division marked a significant milestone with the inauguration of its custom electrolyte production facility in Madison, Wisconsin. The event, held on March 28, featured U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin who played a crucial role in securing an $8.4 million contract from the U.S. Department of Defense to finance the facility. This initiative aims to bolster the national lithium-ion battery supply chain and invigorate Wisconsin's battery industry.

During her visit, Senator Baldwin addressed Orbia employees and guests, expressing pride in supporting local manufacturing and clean energy initiatives. "Wisconsin has always been a state of innovators," she stated. "I am proud to support this project to grow our Made in Wisconsin manufacturing economy, build strong supply chains here at home, drive our clean energy future and create good-paying jobs."

The custom electrolyte facility is part of Orbia’s broader strategy to enhance domestic manufacturing and fortify supply chains within the U.S.-led battery ecosystem. Gregg Smith, President of Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials, emphasized the industry's economic impact: “The battery industry is contributing to the growth of the U.S. economy with applications ranging from energy storage and grid stabilization to heavy industry and national security."

Following a successful beta launch in 2023, Orbia expanded its operations into an 11,000 square-foot facility and has maintained investment in local research through its Madison Technology Center. The company also announced plans to join the RESHAPE consortium for further energy materials research at the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

Vice President Miki Oljaca acknowledged Senator Baldwin's role in inaugurating the facility: “We are proud Senator Baldwin inaugurated our custom electrolyte facility and we celebrate her support securing federal funding.” He added that this development stage will help bring improved batteries to market while continuing research efforts.

Orbia serves diverse clients like Navitas Systems and Enovix with various electrolyte formulations for industrial applications and consumer electronics among others. Its investment underscores its strategic position as a North American supplier of essential battery materials.
