Coca-Cola FEMSA has announced the full reopening of its Porto Alegre plant in Brazil, marking a significant milestone in the company’s reconstruction efforts following the May 2024 floods. The plant, which had been gradually resuming operations since late 2024, is now operating at full capacity.
The reopening was celebrated with a ceremony attended by authorities, media representatives, strategic partners, and employees. Eduardo Pereyra, Operations Director of Coca-Cola FEMSA in Brazil, commented on the occasion: “The full reopening of our Porto Alegre plant reflects the incredible resilience, hard work, and collaborative spirit of our entire team and partners. Seeing it operate at full capacity again fills us with deep pride and renews our energy to continue creating the future by serving our communities.”
The recovery was facilitated by an investment plan amounting to USD 156 million for Rio Grande do Sul. Of this total, USD 119 million were specifically allocated to the reconstruction and modernization of the Porto Alegre plant.
In response to last year’s floods, Coca-Cola FEMSA Brazil provided support through various initiatives including direct assistance to over 360 affected employees and support for nearly 2,000 recyclable material collectors in the region. Additionally, more than USD 264,000 in food and essential goods were donated along with one million liters of Crystal water to impacted communities.
This effort is part of Coca-Cola FEMSA’s broader regional disaster support strategy. In Mexico, after Hurricane Otis in 2023, similar initiatives were implemented involving collaboration with Fundación FEMSA and Mexican authorities.
Overall, Coca-Cola FEMSA has donated over 200,000 liters of water for emergencies in both Mexico and Brazil as part of its commitment to water security and humanitarian aid.
With these actions alongside the reopening of its Porto Alegre facility, Coca-Cola FEMSA continues to demonstrate resilience while contributing positively to community recovery efforts.
