Arca Continental S.A.B. de C.V. issued the following announcement on May 19.

PetStar, the world’s largest food-grade PET recycling plant, led by Arca Continental and members of the Mexican Coca-Cola Industry (IMCC), virtually presented its Sustainability Report 2019 in the framework of the 25th anniversary of its foundation.

The document highlights the scope of its initiatives, the different certifications obtained in the year, and other achievements that the company had throughout 2019. Likewise, the environmental commitment reflected in:

-The collection and recycling of more than 84 thousand tons of bottles

-The production of 52 thousand tons of food grade recycled resin to be incorporated into new bottles with recycled content

-Avoid the emission of 108 thousand tons of CO 2 by stopping using virgin resin

-Use 63% of energy from clean sources

-Generate 1,183 direct jobs and more than 25,000 indirect ones.

Also noteworthy is the obtaining, in early 2020, of the Ibero-American Award for quality at the gold level for the quality and innovation of its processes, as well as the Cradle to Cradle certification, which certifies its recycled food-grade PET resin as the first in the world to comply with the five categories that endorse it as a 100% circular product, in addition to the company’s adherence to the Global Compact for the New Plastic Economy and the National Agreement for the New Plastic Economy signed with the Senate of the Republic.

In recent days, together with the IMCC, the company announced the delivery of more than 200,000 masks of recycled PET, obtained from the donation of more than a million bottles, for personnel who work in hospitals that treat Covid-19.

PetStar’s operations, led by Arca Continental, Coca-Cola de México and various IMCC bottlers are a global benchmark in waste management, and are pillars within the Coca-Cola Company’s recycling strategy by a #WorldWithoutResidues.
