COMISION FEDERAL DE ELECTICIDAD: The CFE Director General, Manuel Bartlett Diaz, Meets with Carbon Producers; Second Day of Activities in the State Coahuila

Comision Federal de Electricidad issued the following announcement on Aug. 3.

Commitments were established to boost the development of coal production and energy generation.

The purchase of coal must be of quality, as required by the power plants, and at a fair price.

The General Director of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), Manuel Bartlett Díaz, completed a working tour in the state of Coahuila, following the mandate of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to talk with coal producers and establish mutual commitments to boost the development of coal production and energy generation.

In the municipality of Sabinas, he met with executives of the Coahuila Mining Development Promoter (PRODEMI), where he told them that a mechanism is being analyzed so that the hydroelectric plants are in permanent operation and thus support all producers region of. He stressed that it is a social and justice issue, where "coyotaje" and hoarding or monopolies should be avoided; the purchase of coal must be of quality, as required by the power plants, and at a fair price, in order to support small producers and encourage the economy of the area.

Subsequently, he had a meeting with coal producers in the Sabinas basin, where he highlighted the great effort that has to be made to return the productive capacity to the region, complying with the efficient quality and design indications of coal, and on the other hand , that the CFE be developed again as a conduit of energy with coal, giving adequate maintenance to the plants that were abandoned.

Manuel Bartlett Díaz, said that the CFE has no commitment to anyone and that social justice should be done, as well as economic development with the generation of electricity. He commented that he has the support of the state government and will be closely monitored. He also said that the use of coal is to take advantage and not waste a natural resource, as an example he exposed to countries such as Japan, the United States and Germany that continue to use it. He denied that the direction of the CFE is towards "carbonization".

For his part, the Governor, Miguel Ángel Riquelme Solís, commented that it was an important day for coal producers, it is not easy to know what happens in each of the plants, but very viable approaches were found so that in the future there is stability and economic spill in the coal region, and thus be participants in the generation of energy in Mexico.

Meanwhile, producers in the region mentioned that the root problem is to dispatch more energy from coal plants to encourage the use of this mineral and that the CFE can buy more. They made the commitment to find that coal is of quality, as required by plants and at a fair price.
