British Chamber of Commerce in Mexico issued the following announcement on Sept. 7.
The British Chamber of Commerce would like to welcome our new member Instituto Bilingüe Victoria!
Instituto Bilingüe Victoria is a secular, international school. Most of our classes are delivered in English and we have a reputation for innovative teaching. This year, marks our 25th anniversary.
We are a non-profit organisation, which opened in 1993 with only 12 students. Nowadays we have 756 students but still aim to preserve the high-quality education and community atmosphere that characterises Victoria. Our students are mostly Mexican, and the staff are made up of both Mexican and British teachers. All of our subjects, with the obvious exception of Spanish, are taught in English and our students are confident in their ability to use the language properly and with fluency. In addition, Victoria students are required to complete the Mexican educational requirements, as well as taking final examinations from the University of Cambridge. Victoria is also a Cambridge International Examination Centre.
Since 1993, Victoria has given scholarships to all school levels, from kindergarten to the sixth grade, and to the local rural ‘ejido’ community. We are also happy to invite the neighbourhood children who do not attend Victoria on a regular basis to the Saturday morning classes and activities once a month.
Moreover, Victoria is an ‘inclusive’ school. This policy is carefully revised by a highly qualified Special Needs Department which helps all students to succeed both in, and out of the classroom. Unlike other secular private schools in México, Victoria accepts children with special education needs.
The local community also benefits from our Special Needs Department; they attend workshops and therapy sessions in our facilities at weekends and evenings.
For two years, Victoria has been part of the ‘Escuela Sustentable del Estado de Querétaro Committee’. This year, this committee is collaborating with SEMARNAT Querétaro, which certifies and acknowledges public and private schools for their sustainable programmes. SEMARNAT Querétaro promotes a network of schools working towards sustainable education in their local communities.
We are also members of LAHC ‘Latin American Heads Conference’ and ACPQ ‘Asociación de Colegios Particulares de Querétaro’.
